Evidently if you email KBR’s Communications Director Heather Browne because you are disgusted with the vile trash that comes from her office by way of official KBR “statements” on the rape of KBR employees you get a response back from KBR’s Vice President of Security. I kid you….not!
I was reading an awesome post today at RH Reality Check by By Megan Carpentier called KBR’s “Facts” About Rape Case Are No Such Thing. She was tearing apart KBR’s Fact Sheet on the Jamie Leigh Jones Litigation and doing a great job of it. I get all the way to the bottom and she references an article about the Jamie Jones case that appeared on Jezebel last week. Evidently, in response to this article several readers chose to write KBR’s Communication Director Heather Browne questioning her integrity, the accuracy of the “fact” sheet and her motives for writing it. Those letters were answered by Randy Lawton, the Vice President of Security for KBR. Below are from the comments section of the Jezebel article.
I sent an email to the KRB PR contact: Here is the string of emails (they are very defensive)
Ms. Browne,
Although I am sure there is a pecking order in terms of PR statements at KBR, I am going to join the barrage of emails I’m sure you are getting and say that the way your company is handling the rape of Jamie Leigh Jones is atrocious and inhumane. The wounds that Jones suffered from are not contingent with “consensual” sex. It is disgusting that an company would work so hard to cover the asses of a male employee instead of supporting a woman who was obviously attacked, regardless of whether or not sex happened.Please, work with your superiors to rethink your stance on this case and to see who the victim is in this situation. Please work to get justice for Jamie Leigh Jones and to prove to women all across the country that powerful, white America doesn’t always have to be sexist and degrading to women.

I am just not reading anything threatening in this email. She (Inga) just calls her (Heather) on her crap. This is BS the way KBR has actively and publicly humiliated and harassed rape victims, Gold Star parents of electrocuted soldiers, injured and killed employees and victims of Qarmat Ali to say the least with their stead fast denial of the truth.
Heather didn’t even have the professional courtesy to respond. In typical KBR “knee-jerk” fashion, the VP of KBR Security’s response is below.
KBR is in receipt of your recent message related to the Jamie Leigh Jones litigation.
Just as it is certainly your right to express your opinion, we believe the company has cause to express its position as well.
As this case remains in litigation and the allegations continue to be reviewed, we would hope that you reserve judgment and take into account the broader issues of the litigation process involved. As KBR’s fact sheet (www.kbr.com) on the case states, both a State Department investigation and Federal Grand Jury reviewed Ms. Jones’ allegations. No prosecution has resulted and no arrests have occurred. KBR’s position on the litigation stands, and we remain committed to defending the company.
Further, it is inappropriate to personally attack the company’s communication director as part of your forum to voice your opinion. It is the role of any communications director to speak on behalf of the company, honestly conveying its position with out compromise of personal integrity. As such, that individual’s personal character should not be questioned or maligned, simply because he or she is doing their job.
While we again remain cognizant of your right to express your views, we hope that you appreciate the process involved in this matter and remain just as vigilant in learning about the facts before asserting blame or judgment.

Well…I’m just jealous Inga got a response at all. I’ve emailed several times and even invited Heather to my friend on Facebook….and nothing. No response. (sniff sniff) Well, if Heather and I are destined to never be BFF’s, I guess there is no risk in me telling her what I think of her…”Your job is to lie for KBR, plain and simple and you need to toughen up and quit with the drama queen crap. KBR pays you quite handsomely to insult and malign the victims of KBR’s incompetence. You are the face of KBR. When we think of KBR’s crimes, we see you. If you think these victims and the people who support them are going to be able to separate the “person Heather Browne” from the “KBR Heather Browne” you’re wrong.

In my email to Ms. Browne, I did not accuse her being the sole party in making the statements for KBR. I was not personally attacking her and made that clear in the rhetoric of my email. I simply asked that she bring it to the attention of her superiors that they may be another way to go about the situation. Furthermore, I was not implying that the company could not have a position, I was merely asking Ms. Browne to approach those who make the decisions to further consider the allegations.
I do appreciate the company’s process, and I referred to it in my original email, and as you say, I am exercising my right to express my views. I was in no way degrading, malicious or attacking of Ms. Browne character. She is the contact on the statement from KBR, and thus I sent her an email.

KUDOs to Inga!! Heather, you can sit around fooling yourself that you are contributing something to to humanity, but you aren’t. Heather Browne is turning out to be one of the more despised women in America. She has made the choice to continue to work for KBR and put out those disgusting press releases and statements. She could have chosen to quit. But she chose sell her soul to the Devil for a Directors job now it’s starting to get warm. As a woman and a human, I find what Heather is doing reprehensible.

i know nothing of this alleged rape or other, however i can say that i was deployed under the watch of kbr and military for 4 – 5 years and had no incidences; none……i inspected the iraqi prisons, skirted the entire camp in inspections in course of job and was proud of company.,.i am disheartened to know this may have happened to someone..i have my doubts, but most of all hate the way haters join to hate when in fact no hate may be fothcoming and deserved….let the legal system handle it and get out of it, MS SPARKY.
I’m glad nothing like this happened to you and I hope it never does. But because it didn’t happen to you, does that mean it didn’t happen to anyone? That is a very myopic point of view. I’m in it up to my elbows. The chances of me getting out of it now are slim to none.
Wow Ms Sparky you were pretty hard on Heather Browne but I do agree that the “It’s just my job” excuse does not exonerate her from the statements SHE made on behalf of KBR. SHE made them SHE is responsible for them. Personally I think KBR is using her because she is a woman. I think they are assuming outrageous statements such as these might be more palatable to the general public coming from an attractive young female than a grey haired old man. I think KBR has underestimated the voracity of female bloggers, not just you but others as well. I’ll bet KBR just hates bloggers because they can’t control them.
i will just say this………………….if i had sued for all the times in my 20 years of working in a “mans job” that i could have…i would be rich…and what i mean is this …AS A BEGINNER IN INDUSTRY NORMALLY NOT DONE BY WOMEN………………instead of looking for ways to sue the company, i looked for ways to work with all and the guys too (instead of castrating them) and make it all work and proceed in a good professional manner and it worked……..i am so disillusioned by MS SPARKY and her followers , that i have nothing more to say except GOD HELP AMERICA
Well good for you. And let’s not forget about ALL the women who came before you and paved the way. You chose to handle your issues in your way. Everyone has that right. Standing up for ones rights takes a lot of bravery. Not everyone has that. I have been working in a mans world since 1978 and have never sued anyone either. But I don’t begrudge those who do. Those suits have changed the laws that give you those equal rights and equal pay in the work place. Let’s not be too arrogant.

KSniper – Good for you. I think you should be commended for offering what is often the opposing view on this site. And you are right there are a lot of people who seem to be hell bent on trying to trash based on gossip and inuendo – now not just KBR but a few of the other companies as well. KBR (formerly Brown and Root) has been in the business of supporting the troups in hazardous areas since the 1960′s in Vietnam. And they have done a damn good job of it. I was once in fact told by a now Lt. General who is in a very high position that “the Army could not have a war with out B&R – they do all the stuff the military thinks they are too good to do.” And although the general public may not believe it – Long Island really likes KBR. Is KBR perfect – no – and I agree if they are wrong – well buck up and admit you are wrong – but all in all – KBR is no worse than any of the other companies out there and a lot better than some of them.
