I can’t even count the number of complaints I’ve received regarding the pay issues and the working and living conditions for Dyncorp LOGCAP IV employees in Kandahar, Afghanistan. All in all it has to be close to 100% that being an new American expat working for Dyncorp sucks. Many are saying it’s worse than working for KBR. But I’m sure if you’re Scott Mount, Jeff Archie or Conrad Cannon your living conditions are premium. Below is an email from a Dyncorp employee.
Friends,
If you are thinking Dyncorp for your job, let me give you some true blue facts. I know everyone at one time or another has ask, “what have you heard about Dyncorp”, well you are hearing it from the horses mouth.
Dyncorp is not what you expect from a company of this size and reputation. The HR is as bad as it gets. The finance (pay) is a hit and a miss. Some people get paid others are not paid for up to three months. The living conditions are as poor as there is. We start out in a circus tent with 300 people double bunked with 2 foot of space between bunks. Then we are moved to an 8 man tent but they have placed bunks in for 20 people. The top bunks are only 2 inches from the top of the tent and the lights. We are given 3 to 4 foot between bunks and this is our permanent living assignment, even for Supervisors. There are CHU’s(Civilian Housing Unit) with TCN’s (Third Country Nationals) running everything. There is no such thing as a waiting list for CHU’s and nobody can explain why most xpats are in tents. I can see most xpats demobing once they all get their clearances.
The laundry goes this way…you turn your laundry in with an issued bag which holds 2 sets of clothes. It takes 72 hours to receive your laundry back. They wash your clothes without removing the clothes from your bag. If you do not put the soap powder in your bag your clothes are washed with dirty water only. When you receive your clothes back they smell, most have dirt stains on them (which were not there to start with) and they are waded up and wrinkled beyond belief.
The chow is bad, C-Rations are better. The working conditions are bad, I will not go into this. Think the worst and then add more bad things to it and you have the work conditions.
There is no safety or any kind of QAQC around the company.
We all share the bathrooms with the TCN’s. These guys are from all over the world. They are doing their laundry in the showers and sinks. Absolutely disgusting people. There is nobody around to enforce rules or regulations in the camps. It looks and smells like a group of animals just spent 24 hours in the showers. Nasty to say the least.
One of the Transportation Managers (name edited out) here just got busted with drugs and having classified material in his computer. Real class act management. I thought KBR was bad until I came here. I found out some supervisors and managers that KBR fired – are here. It’s hard to get away from idiots.
Stay away from DynCorp Intl.
I know this will guarantee some hate emails but I stand by my opinion there are inherent safety issues with American expats living in close quarters with unvetted TCN’s from SE Asia, India etc. At least Americans get a back ground check and you know there are no convicted felons sleeping in the next bunk. With regards to TCN’s you have no idea who the person is sleeping next to you and then there are health issues. Diseases such hepatitis and tuberculosis are near epidemic conditions in some countries and it’s a well known fact that labor contractors lie about getting these people vetted including medical checks.

Regarding FN’s/ TCN’S …among so many things how comes foreign nationals get paid the lowest in Dyncorp with NO uplift and we get exploited the most. Example:-
Only 800 $ travel allowance( really)while expats get 3200dollars…aint that something and we have to pay 85 bucks for our luggage to be released at dubai to our respective connecting flights via a company called marhaba services. What next we have to walk to dubai from KAF…lol. Our visas are as always delayed whe we go fo our RnR trips…it takes us half the year to save up…then get stuck back home for 2/3 months of unpaid leave…before we are issued visas…and on the visas..the issue dates are always very early hence the company willingly holds back issuing the visas…on the company intranet, when one applies for internal postings there is no word/term as DIFP…only DI and DIFZ….hmmmm…equal rights, equal opportunities huh?????? DIFP is just a ghost company that is robbing people.
Expats are separated from the word go….from recruitment process, billeting, R&R returns…the story is endless…..can Dyncorp step up and pay everyone equally…KBR and Fluor did it. They should stop being so cheap
WIKIPEDIA DEFINATION OF EXPAT: An expatriate (in abbreviated form, expat) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and culture other than that of the person’s upbringing or legal residence
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security a foreign national is defined simply as, “An individual who is a citizen of any country other than the United States
As obvious as it is we’re all in Afghanistan ?
Go home already…no one asked for you to stay and “suffer” the humiliating conditions you describe. You signed a contract so live up to it an stop your whining or just go home. And for your information, depending on your nationality KBR/Fluor pay virtually the same salary as DI when it comes to your “kind”…the Visa issue is your problem and not the companies; the company is “helping” you so enough of your trash talk about any contractor company that is employing you.
Yes,you said exactly what i wanted to tell the Timz guy,for sure he applied for a job waited for weeks and prayed over it,he got the job then now he is complaining, yet before you leave home, you are told everything, its not like DI hid something,if you cant cope with the conditions just GO HOME!so many people want the opportunity you have now.
TIMZ says “…..can Dyncorp step up and pay everyone equally…KBR and Fluor did it.” At a certain pont in time KBR did pay equally. It was not in 2004 or 2005 then in 2008 KBR started lowering the pay of TCNs or OCNs. Some were getting a base of $485/month in late 2008. I do not know what you are complaining about since you knew what your pay was and the R and R when you went with DI. If you do not like the contract quit then or be a man and honor your commitment and then go elsewhere. If KBR is so much better go with them as they are hiring.
As a veteran OCONUS employee in Afghanistan, I have seen it all. I came to Afghanistan in 06 and work in I.T. doing everything from server support to VSAT configuration. Everything I read above is true, and then some. Being new to the scene they lowballed me at $325 a day. Little did I know….
The good thing is I got around and it didnt take me long to figure out that Dyncorps wages were the equivalent of Walmart wages over here. It took me about 8 months to jump ship, and for the past 3 years I have been making $800 a day with much better benefits to boot. I found out that a month after I left Dyn, they cut costs by booting all Americans out, and switching to TCN’s like Filipinos and Kosovars. These guys are lower than low. But I guess I should thank them for getting me over here and letting me see the light. The big bucks ARE HERE. You just have to find the right company. (read small organization)
Sandman,
I’m looking into the contract work and you’re killing me with where “the big bucks” are? What are some of the smaller organizations you’re talking about?
Its hard to find the small companies Dale. Honestly I found my goldmine through networking. Ran into a guy working for this small company, and he liked my skillset. No matter how low I got paid, I worked like I was making 1k a day. It paid off in the end. Like I said, if I had not been over here I would have never found the good gig. The thing is that most small companies hire by word of mouth, not from strangers submitting resumes off the internet. Anybody can send you anything in a resume and its just hard to sift through all the crap. I know this sounds harsh, but its true. Small companies don’t hire much, and when they do, they keep their employees. They can pay more because they don’t have multiple layers of management like Dyn.
dangerzonejobs.com
Thats where I got my small company.
Good luck!
where are the small companies
Dyncorp is also secretly keeping a group of Indian DFAC workers with Hepatitis A and B locked in a building on KAF. THIS IS SLAVERY and they should have been given vaccinations. Believe it or not they came from the very same tents in the pictures above.
Oh,look the Corporate Shills are out a trolling-’Be a man!’,'stop whining!’ What potent ‘motivators’,straight out of 8th grade football, yeah?…You rock on and God bless those with the courage to speak out about being treated like CRAP.Risking your life, mortars ,rockets, attacks on your body, mind and soul,no sleep, being hated and spat upon by the Army kids for being ‘mercenary’,the hours, the isolation, these go with the job, yes.’They knew what they were signing up for!’sure, sure…
Simple respect from your own chain of command is not too much to ask.
MY first question is …is the rockets looking for americans only? they get the hazard pay daily for staying here and the TCNS(AS PER FUCKING AMERICANS)dont..while everyone is having the same risk for life.I can tell this is the # 1 discriminating company in the world.
Well guess what buddy, this an AMERICAN company, with an AMERICAN contract, supporting AMERICAN military. As for this (Fucking) American, if you dont like it take your ass back home. You knew what your getting paid before you signed your contract. Go tell somebody who cares.
My status on the DynCorp web site reads “application processing “I tried calling the recruiter back and left a voice mail to include e-mail but no reply. How long does it take to process and get to work. I have been called for LG4 Warehousemen SR.
Another thing, i gurantee you that if your country ever hired people to support thier military they would not hire americans. Your lucky to have a job and nobody is forcing you to work in Afghanistan.
Hey dude,IF U CANT ANSWER my question dont bullshit..ok.?
Tell the army contract companies to stop hiring from asian countries and make your army contracts sucessful, then u say proud american.now u are shameful americans.
we work and u take the money.injustice lazy guys.
We didnt come here to hear from u saying “if u dont like go back home;”
we know when to go and how to go…
You couldnt even answer my question so i dont want to hear it. Like i said, you knew what you were getting paid WHEN YOU SIGNED YOUR CONTRACT! Shameful lazy Americans? That must be why we have the greatest military this world has ever seen, thats why we are FREE to do what we want with our lives. Have you ever heard the saying that life isnt fair? Stop your whining and just do your job and go home to your family wherever that may be. You think i like how much im getting paid less compared to people who sit in a office all day? I really dont make alot of money, but i am thankful that i have a job to support my family. If you dont like Americans so much then stop working for us and taking our money. I know alot of Asians that like me are just grateful to be able to have a chance to at least buy a home or car. I am a military vet, so who are you to call me lazy and shameful? Think before you speak.
What the heck are you spouting off about Soul? Lazy is not classified to just one race.. the TCNs have their fair share of it too. I have to agree with Proud_American about the money issue. I knew what I was signing before I came over here, I looked at the bottom line and signed away. There are different companies and positions that pay twice what I make, and work half the time. Who cares… worry about what you have now. Also, this is an American funded war, operation and contract. I dont think your country would be so courteous if the tables were turned. As said before… if your not happy, then go home and let one of your fellow country men/women that appreciates the job, fill your spot.
SMS said “your kind” wow SMS and you call yourself an American, like your the god of human beings..i bet your were a truck driver, with your basic highschool education that just landed a job overseas and started earning “big bucks” and now you think your better than everyone. “your kind” really dude!! I guess my kind is the most powerful person in the world and your current president. I DEFINATELY know you have something to say about him. I bet your a redneck and guys like you are the reasons blogs like this were created in the first place. Dont get me wrong, we appreciate having a job overseas, regardless of the BS that surrounds us…but that does not mean we should not air out our views and opinons..or you thought were not educated? like some people on this blog
As we all know racism still exists, but in this type of business there is a new form of rasicm “passport rasicm” coz if your passport does not have the red white and blue…guess what..you sit at the back of the bus!!!
I would like to chime in on this. I for some reason can’t read all 163 comments so I don’t know if this has been covered but here goes:
1. HR-while some of them are very nice the process in Dallas/Ft worth (my experience) is smooth and bumpy at the same time. If you think Dallas is bad though wait until you get to KAF and then start working….
2. KAF does indeed suck. Badly planned layout (or lack of planning),horrible food, tents are cramped and smelly and the bathrooms are gross. Like I want to hold it as long as possible gross. Dyncorp is not totally to blame here I don’t think because Canadians have a lot of dumb rules among other things. KAF badges anyone?
3. The company toes the typical HR line about sharing and caring and how they care about their workers but nothing could be further from the truth. I have not worked for too many other companies like others here so I cannot say if this is univeral or not.
4. I realize when contract change hands the prior company takes all its toys with them and the new company has to provide their own. What I don’t get is how cheap these companies have become and how there is still lack of decent infrastructure on the bases after almost ten years. Doesn’t even have to be permanent structures-CHU’s and other structures can be bought and put up without too much effort.
This is not mt first contract and I am a veteran but I must say this has been quite the experience and one that I would not (at least at this point) care to ever repeat again.
Dyncorp is what it is, they took over for KBR in the south and Fluor got the north. Dyncorp low-balled THE hell out the contract to even be awarded it. Therefore, everything is going to suffer, ya the tents/living conditions suck at KAF but they do at other camps too. Iraq got the major funding of these two wars but beyond that it was so much easier to get the luxury wet hootches trucked right in, here you cant do that, as easy. Trucks are locals coming in from the port in Pakistan which takes forever and it might very easily be damaged or destroyed. Dyncorp has never been on a LOGCAP contract like KBR has so its not surprise to me-I worked for KBR over 4 years in Iraq-that there are problems, and ya like the guy said before there are plenty of expats that got fired from KBR, Scott Mount being the first one I heard of when I got here only to try and be persuaded by another former KBR guy that he got a bad rap as is actually a good dude, ya whatever mofo. One of the BIG things I noticed from the very beginning-been here a year now in april-is that for SOME stupid ass reason, the management was allowing US as in EVERYONE to call home on the VoIP phones for FREE!!! Remember, with KBR is was only to 281& 713 area codes which wasnt very many people. However, you could literally call any damn phone number IN THE WORLD and boy did the Indians eat that shit up like some stinky curry, I literally saw a group of 35 head bobblers sprint off a bus to get to the phone at the CSO building one morning, and they wonder why we dont treat them as equals? little pussies, they should be ashamed to even think theyre men, to me theyre guys that can shave, punk ass bitches, i swear when I finish being a contractor if I NEVER see another fucking indian for the rest of my life it will NOT bother me one bit! ok, so back to the phone deal, well apparently a 1 MILLION DOLLAR phone bill for the month of February was just too much! so they cut it off, now we have to use phone cards which to me, is great, it seriously pissed me the fuck off knowing that all my tax money was going the phone lines to india, kenya, and the balkans.
Im at my 3rd camp now and couldnt be happier, everyone here at this small little FOB gets along, we got good chow, a good gym and our alaskan tents are still tents but their the Hilton of tents.
To end this, so I’m clear with everyone that reads this, I aint complaining about anything-except the phone situation-I’m just telling it like it is-the dust at KAF is TERRIBLE!-and I signed my contract, re-upped a month ago and hopefully stay another year and a reduced salary compared to the one i had with KBR, with the economy like it is in the states, I’m just happy to have a J.O.B.!
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard about the phone issue. I’m not sure what DI was thinking on that one. But if the DoD reimburses for that I will be disappointed. Hello DCAA are you listening!!! Someone needs to audit the hell out of that one.
Glad to hear you are doing well in Afghanistan. Sounds like you have a pretty good attitude. Please be careful!!
ya no kidding, I wonder why the DCMA/DCAA didnt do something, they have a compound on KAF like I’ve never seen before, they’re some pampered SOB’s, thats for sure.
thanks Ms Sparky I appreciate it, I got less than a year left and I’m hanging my CAC card the hell up!
Mitch
Trust me when i tell you that DCMA would LOVE to audit most the places that provide services on KAF(DFAC, Water, Electric etc etc etc) but we arent ALLOWED to due to the fact that KAF is a NATO base and the majority of the contracts are NOT LOGCAP. We eat the same crap, drink the same water, breath the same dust as you and its frustrating to us because we COULD do something about much of what is talked about in this blog. As for the “nice compound” you noted? most of that we built with our own hands on OUR off hours time. and we MADE it nice. are we perfect? hell no…
Low balled…bullshit. KBR was 900,000,000 lower on the bid than DynCorp. It was given to DynCorp to appease the crooked politicians (WAXMAN) and his cronies in Washington. Something about KBR being high risk. Pure political bullshit.
a $900 million lower bid, man thats a lot…and ya that doesn’t surprise me, they wanted it to go to anyone but KBR because of Cheney’s no bid contract to them. either way, dyncorp is a shit company compared to KBR
Then why are you working for them???
because it pays the bills, my job is fine, but the company overall sucks
I am working in Dyncorp, i feel that KBR are very good than Dyncorp there is no good food, working area, the tent where we stay is very bad and the main problem is they are not paying to employee for there perfect job, If you want to change your position which you are qualified they will tel apply online no paper work that is too much bulshit……
I think the daysd of the AMERICAN expat contractor are numbered, so mayby subs and OCN working for a much lower rate, do not go home for years, yes years at a time and usually jsut do there job. Flour must be 80% ovn and 20 ex pats we al know that PPI was lost to NASA for what, they jsut cut the wages of the workers, close to TIP if ya ask me not even close to minium wage, just my thoughts im nt that wel connected but i am very aware, and yes i have been in both Iraq and afghanistan , sdummer in KAF must be the hottest place i have ever been.
turns out the MILITARY has designed the LOGCAP contract to be 80/20 for cost reasons or at least from what I’m told, makes sense though.
I took my piss test…how long before DI calls for me to leave the US to KAF?
@Ammo guy1:have they called you yet? it was rather quickly after i took mine that they called me back
Piss test? ROFLMAO. I have worked over here for 4 years making 220k plus a year and NEVER took a piss test. I COULD pass any piss test because I don’t do drugs, but the fact remains….Any company that tests you presumes your guilt, and YOU have to prove your innocence.
I worked for Dyn years ago, but it didnt take me long to figure out that these guys are nothing but the Walmart of OCONUS EMPLOYERS. Back when I worked for Dyn (a very short time), the didnt test me. I guess they have sunk even lower…..truly sad…..
What can you tell me about DynCorp living conditions now?? Still stock piled in tents??
its different at each camp, some have old tents for temporary living with permanent dry hootches and some all are tents, where im at there are both dry hootches and alaskan tents which are the Hilton’s of tents, the ac’s work great in these things. The place that sucks the most is Kandahar, no one wants to go there let alone work there. Either way most of the smaller FOB’s have gotten better with time.
If you’re going to Khandahar what is something you definitely want to bring from home?
A towel, some sandals for walking to the shower, wash cloth and just pack lightly. Oh yea, some sunglasses, couple of long sleeves for flying. Sorry I’m not much help (soap dish) and tootbrush holder they go quick. Immediate needs. Good walking shoes for gravel and sand. Little flash lite. And a good book.
a laptop, ear plugs, sleep mask, flipflops, sunscreen, just to add the above list
Why doesn’t anyone want to go to Kandahar? Isn’t that the main post?
KAF is the main hub but its overcrowded, its nasty dusty, theres a shit pond too close to everyone, too much traffic, you hear everything that lands and takes off, its just a stressful as hell place to work and live
Honesty, it’s all about respect for each other. It’ll make it a whole lot easier in the work place. I to did for five years in Iraq. One question about Dyncorp Labor Foreman positions, anyone have the real story on this?
what exactly do you want to know?
Latest News for all :
The Hr Moin Alam of dyncrp has been sacked and his other colleagues as well in New Delhi as they were caught taking service charges from candidates. They have shifted the Centaur Hotel base and have opened up in a new place. The moment you put an Indian Hr the bribing story crops up and it is true.
What’s defined as a labor foreman, dose he supervise a detail of TCN’s or the whole department? and the TCN’s supervise themselves?
A Labor Foreman supervises a group of Third Country Nationals (TCN’s) also known as Foreign Nationals (FN’s) who do primarily manual labor such as, cleaning porta johns, filling sandbags, cleaning Ab Units (bathroom trailers) grounds maintenance such as trash removal etc.. The labor foreman’s crews basically do what no one else wants to do. You are responsible for the work and their every movement.
perfect description, the labor workers are the lowest of the low workers, theyre the dumbest of the indians even though they may be the hardest working of them all.
So It’s just like in KBR?
TCN are now called OCN, Other Country National and soon will replace the american contractors
Do they have PX trailers there, also cell phones any suggestions on them?
of course there are PX’s here, plenty of them. cell phone carriers are AWCC and Roshan, depeneding on the base depends on which one works, both work at KAF
Does anyone know the status of vehicles DI has in Afghanistan? Or is everyone on foot. What about buses?
depends on the base, main vehicles are ford rangers and toyota hiluxes, then polaris rangers and kawasaki mules, KAF and Leatherneck have bus routes
Can a dentist keep you from being deployed if so what issues caused it.
of course, f*cked up teeth i guess
God I am glad I am working for KBR in the states now. God help all those trap in shit holes like Afghanistan. God bless em and get yourselves home as soon as possible.
Mitch, thanks for the info. I’ve worked labor foreman before. Someone mentioned that expats live in the same tents as OCN’s. I would thought they have their own compound.
youre welcome Steve, nope, some places you gotta room with those chatty cathy stinkin bastards. Dyncorp does not utilize PPI as much as KBR did/does in Iraq
For DI candidates whats next after Dr.McDougalls screen and all the paperwork is in?
I talked with the lady at dyncorp camp lindsey about the need to sign in for just a cup of coffee, she said it was to account for the food that the workers were possibly stealing,BULLSHIT! its to con the us taxpayer to pay for meals we arent eating,i dont work for dyncorp but i eat the slop they puke out and i see how the employees are treated and how they hire TCN with health concerns! fuck dyncorp turn those cheap bastrds in for fraud and slavery!
you got that right Bob!
bob…I agree with You.Cheap bastards are excellent option for Dyncorupted company.Dyncorp not looking for workers with experience and knowledge. Priceeeeeee per hour is very important and that is why dyncorupted company still not supporting US army force on the high level.
My my. I’m reading all of this because we know someone who is in Afghanistan with Dyncorp. He’s been saying what a nice apartment he has, how he’s earning tons of money, and on and on. Now I’m wondering…how much is true and how much is BS?
This guy was a former co-worker (let go for a variety of reasons) and we’re thinking he’s just BSing everyone now to make his life seem so much better since he was let go.
I have to say, that would be the first time I’ve heard of someone living in a nice apartment in Afghanistan. The vast majority of US Expats live in B hut tents. Some might live in portable trailers. If someone is living off base while working for an Afghan contractor they might live in a house/compound with other employees. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
As a former KBRer now with Fluor, I can tell you straight up that the vast majority of folks are in tents or ratty B huts. Here at Bagram we are getting containers, three to a container but they are going by seniority and if you are Bosnian, you move to the front of the line, Bosnian billeting mafia and all. I am in an ALASKA tent and I must say, it is not too shabby, much better than the typical GP tents. I am currently a top bunk and unless I can get a lower bunk in another ALASKA tent, I will be perfectly happy where I am. Being a manager gets me no special privileges, or so I am told by the head billeting Bosnian. Oh well, for my salary, I can suck it up and push on. Quite frankly, I would rather stay in the tent the the B huts (fire hazard) or smelly conex. My luck, I would get stuck with two Bosnians who smoke, drink and take a bath only once a week. Those containers can get pretty ripe… Oh, and even with all the little special privileges the Bosnians get, they still work on average about 2 hours a day and complain they are not paid a fair wage. Unreal…
Oh, and if you don’t believe when I say the B huts are a fire hazard, just ask the SF from the UAE. Their compound got hit last week and the whole compound burned to the ground. Dry wood and close quarters, what else would you expect. Oh, but to hear the firefighters at chow talk about the incident, they were there to put it out… I mean watch it burn… bunch of worthless losers…
I work for DI in ‘stan. The Indians are paid peanuts, yes, ($6 an hour for a machine operator)but it is equal to 5 times their equivalent wage in India, so they are happy to get it. The Kenyans are the “real” millionaires. the hourly rate for a mechanic ($4) is 12 times what he would get paid in Kenya. Being from the UK, my rate with DI is double what I earn in UK. Who is badly/well paid now?????
Hello Friends,
I am an Indian and i have attended an interview for Subcontract Administrator for LOG4 at Dyncorp, apparently i am being considered for this position. I would like to know what would be my wages or salary as i have not been told by both HR and Director of Supplier management yet (Who interviewed me)? Your soonest response on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Anonymous
I am a 55 year old American applying with DI for a LG4 Comm Tech JR in Kandahar I applied a month ago and have not heard anything. Need to know if my age is an issue. What I can expect the pay scale to be. What are the hours required daily What are the living conditions
is your resume good? did you pay to have it done? if not, do that and reapply and age might have something to do with it. Most of the IT guys are young and DI subcontracts with another IT company, they just signed on with another company called Proactive, so you might want to apply with them.
hey is this mitch from tikrit? hey its ed. do u need any help. bags are packed and ready to go. emonahan113@msn.com u da man
Your age is not an issue as there are a few others that are in your age range and older that work with the IT department there for DI. I think the pay is around 110,000 a year for a Junior Tech. The hours are usually 12 a day 7 days a week. The living conditions usually are shareing a room with other people in the IT section if you are on Khandahar which is about 6-8 and not much room at all or worse than that a bigger tent with over 100 in it with no room but if you go to a smaller base it can vary from your own room to a tent again. You can get very lucky though and get a room to yourself on Khandahar but that is tough to get.
Have you or are you currently employed with DI? If so please give detail, duration and what dept I amm looking for a life changing experience so is the general attitude suck it work your but off and take the money and run If am contacted by a recruiter will he give me the straight line or is it just a line to get a warm body over there.
I meant suck it up
I know someone local here that has worked for DI for the past 4 years Iraq and Afghanastan currently took a position w/ the State Dept. In 4 years (being in law enforcement ) he climbed 4 grades in that Mentoring Classification. The opportunity for advancement is what I am counting on, Tell me what you think Thanks
I have sat here and read all of the comments and am surprised no one ever researchs the company they are considering going to work for. I hired in with KBR back in March 2003 and was in Iraq. Before I even applied I went and got myself all learned up on just what LOGCAP was since I was an Air Force puke. Anyway if anyone bothers to research the history of LOGCAP they’ll find that DI has a very dark past. From the sounds of things it hasn’t gotten any better either. KBR may have had it’s faults, just listen to Ms Sparky as she can tell you many of them but of all the company’s in Iraq there weren’t and aren’t any better. Sorry to disagree with you there Ms Sparky on YOUR website but as someone looking in and listening to the politicians it does look bad. The truth will set you free and KBR is still free today. Sure they had some of the US’s pieces of crap come to work for them that made them look bad, so does the military and the USG. Just look at YOUR blog and count the number of government folks serving time. I bleed red but not KBR red but I’ll take KBR over ANY contractor involved with LOGCAP or any other program.
Have a nice day!!!
If you’ve been reading you will see I’ve stated several times that as a company KBR in Iraq is a better company to work for than DynCorp or Fluor in Afghanistan.
I have to also agree I worked for KBR in Iraq for a few years and also worked for DI in Afgan and have to say that KBR was a much better company than DI. Yes you are right do a little research on the company your going to work for.
Does anyone know what it means when it says “Application Processing” under the comments block of the DynCorp Website? How long does it take before you hear something or whats the next step?
Thanks Mitch Are you employed with DI
Dyncorp does suck. I won’t do business with them again. KBR had/has it’s problems, but I always got paid what I was owed and had good living conditions. DC doesn’t know what they are doing over there.
No, DynCorp does know exactly what they are doing. DYN considers all project employees a temporary labor pool; all are expendable and replaceable at the lowest possible cost. That is why your email address is [name] CWR. CWR = Contract Worker. DYN considers you only a higher cost SCW.
Is Dyncorp that bad still I just got turned down by ITT for the second year in a row. Last year cause of a tax issue which is paid now and they no longer require SF86 this year I don’t know why I already have a CAC with KBR and the only other issue is a 20 year old misdemeanor. So with the end in Iraq coming I need a job.
A job with a company that sucks is better than no job. Take a job with DYN until you find something better, as many others have done. Be warned though, DYN’s hiring process is just as screwed up as the rest of the company.
Hey Philip, how long does it take before you hear something from DYN? My profile on the DYN web says “application processing” for 2 different jobs and its been almost 32days.. But I agree, a job is better than no job!!
DYN’s process is VERY slow – 75 days or more to hire someone. Waiting for a recruiter to select your resume and contact you can take even longer. Good luck.
Hey well worked for Lear Siegler Services back in 06 in Iraq on a marine base. The conditions where the same as described above accept for the fact I was getting paid 18 thousand less than what I have been offered. I am currently been offered an HVAC Mechanic position. Actually Lear Siegler was in a civil lawsuit for stealing money from it’s employees. So if you get a full paycheck and you are eating plus somewhere to sleep, you are not doing bad. If anyone has any advice for me that is positive and can be beneficial I would appreciate it.

The TCN’s overseas are to many and wanting to much for them to get the same salary as an expat would require the expat to get paid more also since we are paid on what the economy of the country we live in so India or Philippines for example say they are at 40 of there currency to one dollar if they make $100k time 40 equals 4 million of there currency per year and no worker India/Philippines is earning that much money in there country. My opinion is that all US government jobs should be 51% american and 49% TCN`s and remember the money we pay them never ever is put back into the US economy
This is not good company my dear friends
For all you looking to contract with one of the major companies in Afghanistan i.e. Fluor,DynCorp or ITT which are the largest companies. They are all the same. Most everyone here came from KBR, WSI, Sallyport you name it. The living conditions are NOTHING like Iraq so get that through your head now. The conditions vary depending on where you work. I have worked a contract with all these companies and there is no better one. DynCorp does have more FN’s or OCNS but pays less for most jobs than Fluor and ITT. However Fluor and ITT Bonuses and RR pays are 4-5 times more than what DynCorp pays.
I have also traveled to most of the sites in this country since 2003 and all of them are in horrible conditions. For the prior service people you shouldn’t have a problem with these conditions since you should be use to them. The biggest issue with ITT is Fluor hates them and sets them up to fail and the ITT management is full of spineless clueless managers. Fluor is just plain horrible with thier safety rules for everything. DynCorp is a bit more relaxed but does pay the least out of all the companies. All these companies have good and bads that come with the. Just come over make your money and go home.
