That's the problem. You can't railroad them out the door in Antarctica. When the station closes for the winter, that's it, it's closed and the employees who are wintering over are there until the station reopens in the Spring.

Fluor terminated a employee a few days ago using the COBC or Code of Business Conduct policy. The reason was that during the first few months of the transition period we had to put in several resumes as HR "lost them" as we were told. This Laborer had a variance between 2 resumes he had submitted. For one job he had 2003-2007 on one resume and the other resume showed 2004-2007. This is nit picking but hey Fluor is giving Yellow Badges to the locals to do the cleaning so they do not need a Bosnian there now as he is too expensive. Ex-pats thought they were on the chopping block and now they know better. This is BS just like how they used the english testing and then said that they had to give back the $2500 as well for those who failed. Anyone looking for work should not consider Fluor.

Cheryl

The correct category is

Physical Presence Test
You meet the physical presence test if you are physically present in a foreign country or countries 330 full days during a period of 12 consecutive months. The 330 days do not have to be consecutive. Any U.S. citizen or resident alien can use the physical presence test to qualify for the exclusions and the deduction.

The physical presence test is based only on how long you stay in a foreign country or countries. This test does not depend on the kind of residence you establish, your intentions about returning, or the nature and purpose of your stay abroad

You are required to submit the attached form with your tax return

Form 2555 and Form 2555-EZ
If you are claiming the foreign earned income exclusion only, you can use Form 2555. In some circumstances, you can use Form 2555-EZ to claim the foreign earned income exclusion. You must file one of these forms each year you are claiming the exclusion.

If you are claiming either the foreign housing exclusion or the foreign housing deduction, you must use Form 2555. You cannot use Form 2555-EZ. Form 2555 shows how you meet the bona fide residence test or physical presence test, how much of your earned income is excluded, and how to figure the amount of your allowable housing exclusion or deduction.

Do not submit Form 2555 or Form 2555-EZ by itself.

I went and passed my Fit for Duty physical last week. It seems a couple did not pass and had to try and fix their issues on their RnR. They had their first physical last May. The physical is good for one year. One would think that Fluor in the kindness of their heart of hearts would let the people stay on project under the old Fit for Duty until it lapses. Golly GEE! They are cutting them loose. It seems to me that there may be a legal issue here for some of these folks who do not pass their physical this time.I would think that they are still technically qualified to return to work until that last day. Fluor's Bagram management sure seemed to bend over backwards for Luchsinger.
