Lets Only Hire Contractors That Haven’t Committed Crimes
Oh My Freakin’ God!!! What a novel concept!! Only hire contractors that have not committed crimes and that are not under criminal investigation. It’s pure genius!! Like an ethics clause? Why haven’t you thought of that DoD? Or why haven’t you enforced that? Kudo’s to Hays County!
Commissioner proposes ethics policy
By Andrea Lorenz | Monday, April 13, 2009, 11:47 AM
Hays County commissioners will discuss a proposal tomorrow to develop an ethics policy for companies the county does business with.
The discussion comes a week after commissioners withdrew their support to approve a proposed contract with KBR Inc. after two Iraq War veterans criticized the company’s work in Iraq at a public meeting.
County Commissioner Jeff Barton wrote a three-page pitch to commissioners asking them to approve the creation of an ethics policy for contractors that would affect any company or individual seeking a contract of more than $10,000.
Barton proposed the county not do business with firms or firm officials that have been found to have committed fraud or negligence, and that firms disclose if they are under government investigation. (Click HERE to read the original article)

It seems kinda ironic that we all had to go through a criminal background check to get our military CAC Cards so we could go to work for a criminal company that among other things has already pled guilty to bribery.
Does anyone else think that is kinda strange?
Ms Sparky’s Response:
I’ve never really thought of it that way but you make a very good point.

Did we really go through a criminal background check? or did KBR pencil whip that paperwork too.
Ms Sparky’s Response:
Funny you should mention that. KBR was/is under investigation for issuing CAC cards to people who didn’t qualify. I blogged about that a few weeks ago. http://mssparky.com/2009/03/kbr-work-presents-security-risk-says-pentagon/

Be sure to check your “intake physical” too and make sure there are no highlighted areas that they can use against you should you ever become injured or die. Oh…oppppssss…silly me…you probably wouldn’t have the “areas highlighted yet” if your are still healthy and alive.
Ms Sparky’s Response:
I wouldn’t be too sure about that. KBR doesn’t do anything by accident.

Yep. That’s been going on since LogCap2.
Ms Sparky’s Response:
If KBR was doing legitimate background checks for CAC cards then how did so many criminals get over there and why are they under investigation for posing a security risk for it. I know they just handed out CAC cards to the Bosnians. That caused quite a stir.

………………………………………..
KBR handed out CAC cards to US personnel also. They weren’t doing legit background checks.
When I was in Afghanistan, we had a joker who was let out of a federal penitentiary a month prior to being hired. We didn’t find this out until he went home on R&R an was picked up at the port of entry for parole violation.
In Kosovo, 6 ex-cons (that I am aware of) were demobed under similar circumstances.
Yes, KBR pencil whips a lot of things.
Ms Sparky’s Response:
I had blogged about that earlier. Either they are under investigation or were under investigation for just handing out CAC cards. See below.

I see so many posts on many different blogs about criminals on these sites and pencil whipped background checks. Does anyone know what they are truly looking for on these background checks? I know they require valid driver’s license for most positions, does this mean no speeding tickets at all or can have one or two or are they looking for suspended licenses? Are they looking for both misdemeanor and felonies, are there any misdemeanors that are ok? What are they truly looking for in the background checks? I guess I am just trying to find this out so I can figure out why KBR or any company would take chances with people who do not qualify in the background checks when they have a pool of other candidates they could use. For KBR or any company to get their full pay for an employee doesn’t that employee have to be in that position for six months, just thought that is what I read some where.
Ms Sparky’s Response:
There is a lot of stuff that can keep you from getting getting clearance. I don’t have any of the above so I can’t answer. I am certain, no suspended licenses, because you may have to drive a vehicle. Just make sure the tickets are paid off so you don’t get suspended while you are gone. As far as the criminal stuff, I can’t say for certain…(anyone else?) but I was amazed at the criminals that made it over!

just cause some make a mistake in life dont make them a bad person. and they look for person of violent crimes so some of the ones that never did a mistake wont get hurt so dont judge some one cause of the past . and you have to pass a seven year background check and you can not owe the IRS or child support or tickets . and sexual preditors . i look at every one as a person no matter what they have done we do not what was going on in their life at time for these so called (criminals) as you all say.
Ms Sparky’s Response:
Sorry…I disagree. I do not want to get stuck in in Iraq with no place to go with a pedophile, or rapist, or someone prone to assault, or a thief. In the States you can get away from them if you choose. For KBR chances are you will end up working for them at some point.
