Faulty shower sent Corinth soldier home wounded

It was early on a Thursday morning and was standing in the warm water of a shower at Camp Anaconda in Balad, Iraq.

Showers are a godsend in the desert, where dust cakes on soldiers’ skin and sand gathers in their hair.

For soldiers like Madison, who worked repairing Black Hawk helicopters for the 82nd Medical Company, a shower also helped wash off the grime and grease from the job.

Madison was standing in a trailer full of showers, one of the “ablution units” that, according to an electrician who worked for KBR in Iraq, were thrown together by foreign laborers in Turkey and Kuwait, then towed into place at American camps.

The units were a mess, said Debbie Crawford, who ended up testifying before Congress about the lapses of her employer, military contractor KBR.

And improperly wired showers are one of the pieces of malfunctioning military equipment that have led to the deaths of at least 18 U.S. soldiers in Iraq from electrocution. (You must click HERE. Read the entire article, view the short video and view the pics.)

If you have any information about the circumstances surrounding this incident or any other water heater incident please contact me.

No doubt one more spin coming from “Slick Willy” and HB. I’m sure it’s the same Turkish Contractors who were disqualified from doing business with military and re-filed using a different DBA and selling the same crap. The Turkish manufacture needs to held accountable as well as KBR for product liability issues.

Product liability is the area of law in which manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, retailers, and others who make products available to the public are held responsible for the injuries those products cause.

I don’t know how much the DoD paid for these trailer and shower units from Turkey, whatever is was was too much!! And who the QA/QC was…..whether is be DCMA or KBR or ….. IS AN IDIOT!!!

I just read the story and it’s sad, so sad that something like this happened. In the states there are mixing valves that will not let you get scalded.

But we’re talking about Iraq right?
What a load of BS when the Iraq excuse comes up.

If KBR’s logistic and ordering procedures were similar to the real market place, those parts would be readily available.

The people doing the shipping still don’t know what they’re doing.

With the manufacturers being from foreign countries, it will be difficult in the least to sue for liability and make it stick. You may get a judgement, but collecting will be an entirely different affair.

    Ms Sparky’s Response:
It’s a water heater!!! It’s not rocket science! After reading this story I remembered when water heaters were blowing up because of no pressure relief valves. Without a pressure relief valve and a non functioning thermostat and you have a bomb!! But am sure one of KBR’s best and brightest approved the foregoing of that safety feature!

OMG!! I can’t stop crying. I think it’s time to organize a march against KBR in Houston.
