American contractor KBR provides the 400 mainly Nepalese and Sri Lankan staff who work at the plant, lured to Afghanistan by relatively high wages.

However, it can be dangerous work as the Taliban is known to target civilian staff who work for the British or US armies. In July last year, ten workers from the camp were killed in Taliban attacks.

KBR, which is based in Houston, Texas, says staff safety is a priority and provides military flights to take them to and from the camp. But it declined to comment on the wages it pays.

This has been going on since 03. First it was PPI, founded by "ex Halliburton/KBR " employees now this...

At the DFACs there is overhead protection only at the dining halls and not over the adjecent kitchens where these TCNs work and thats an army contract ( the overhead protection)

The kitchen staff are not allowed MNF-I badges and thus cannot leave their living areas. No TCN can possess a phone without an "Exception to Policy".

Everyone knows this..the Army, KBR, contractor. This is documented official policy.

Ms Sparky's Response:
I get so infuriated when KBR comes back and says something like..we don't condone, or we don't approve. It should be more like, oooops we got caught! TCN's have been treated poorly by the labor brokers since the beginning. PPI is notorious. And KBR has known about it.

I will be bipartisan on this issue
How they are treated is poorly, i know they live 14 to a connex
and they don't get paid squat and they are the bulk of the labour
force, I know some of the are better than regular technicians over
let's put this way we had one from the Philippine who was
the best tech' in the reefer crew on anaconda
we get days off they don't
this one issue i am out spoken on I am against how they are treated and paid

Ms Sparky's Response:
KBR claims they are not responsible for the way their labor contractors treat these people...I have the internal emails to prove it. That's just crap. KBR keeps paying these contracts. To me that says...."Good job!" Hopefully the Senate DPC or the Committee For Oversight and Government Reform will hold hearings on this issue. This issue is reprehensible.
