i am a construction engineer degree qualified any idea what the rates are in Iraq

Ms Sparky's Response:
That would depend on the company. Normally KBR pays the least. Check with Fluor and DynCorp. I would suspect you should be able to make somewhere in the $140's/year. Maybe more

if i was out of work i would it no question.
i'm working now on a prevailing wage job so the money would be a little better but not enough to justify quiting my job.

i spoke to a recruiter yesterday (9-22-08) and was quoted the standard rate of about 85K per year. i'm a state licensed journyman plumber.
with FICA and medicare being taken out i don't know if it's worth it now.

Ms Sparky's Response:
Thanks for the info.... As far as going over for KBR for "that"... it's totally up to you. Knowing what I know now...I wouldn't.

I just spoke with two friends of mine that are still in the Iraq theatre and both are state master licensed from their respective states. They tell me they did not sign any new PAN and have not received an extra penny yet. They did say that upper management stated how the whole 'raise' thing is going to work and that they will be "implementing the changes soon".
How many of us have heard that from KBR concerning some issue (especially issues important to employees-like extra money) before and KBR never delivered???? My friends do not expect anything before January 2009. Of course, both of them finish their first year contracts before then. . .

Ms Sparky's Response:
Trust but verify!!!
