As many of you know, I have been blogging about the electrocution deaths of our soldiers in Iraq. To date, there have been at least 11 soldiers and 2 civilians that have died from accidental electrocution. To read my blogs on this just click “KBR” category at the left.
In mid June I was contacted by Senator Dorgan’s office. They had read my blog “U.S. Soldiers Electrocuted In Iraq”. After several phone calls and numerous emails I was asked to testify before the Senate Democratic Policy Committee on July 11th.
That’s why I haven’t been blogging everyday. I’ve been working on my testimony. To all my dedicated readers…thanks for your patience.
I’ve been running around trying to get everything organized. Keelen is spending the weekend with his dad and Cal is in Boston. I’ve been doing my last minute packing and I have done quite a great job of working myself up into a frenzy.
I am a little nervous about the hearings. But I’m just going to tell the truth as I know it. The hardest part for me will be meeting Cheryl Harris and Larraine McGee. Both lost their sons do to accidental electrocutions. I won’t know what to say. What do you say to a mom that has lost a child? I’m sorry just seems inadequate. It’s just heartbreaking to me and I hope I don’t cry.
I will publish my full testimony and any relevant news links in a blog after the 11th. The news media is supposed to be there but I don’t know if or when it will be televised. For me, that is irrelevant. Having the opportunity to tell my side of the story on what happened in Iraq is what’s most important.
Through all this craziness and stress of traveling to DC….I’M STILL NOT SMOKING!!! Woo Hoo!
I’ll update you as soon as I can but you can keep an eye on the hearings at http://dpc.senate.gov/ the Senate Democratic Policy Committee’s Home Page.
